Heading to the Land of Enchantment

My daughters and I will head out first thing tomorrow morning for New Mexico.  My niece is getting married there.  We will stay just Saturday night and head home on Sunday afternoon.  I will get to see a passel of nieces and nephews, and their kids.  I will see my eldest brother and the sister-in-law who has been in my life since I was 13 years old.  She is a sister to me.

I lived in this town for 6 years when I was a young mother.  Unfortunately, those are not good memories for me since I was an active alcoholic at that time.

Praise God!  I am not now.  And haven't been for a very long time.  26 years and 9 months to be precise since a drop of alcohol has passed these lips.

I love the dry desert mesas and clear blue sky of New Mexico.  I love my family.  I have a chance to be with both of my daughters (which can sometimes be torture) for many hours.  We do all have our own rooms at the hotel though.  So there will be escape if necessary.

Have a beautiful Palm Sunday weekend everyone.  I'll be back on Sunday night or Monday morning.

  1. I have a pretty good vocabulary, but I had never come across "passel" before: "a passel of nieces and nephews." I had to look it That is a really cool word. I am definitely going to remember and use that one. ;)

I didn't know you were previously an alcoholic. If you had mentioned it since I've been coming by your blog I must have missed it or forgotten. More power to you. Praise God, indeed. You are definitely a very strong woman, Mary-C.

Many, many years ago, over two decades ago actually, I had a few business trips to central NM - Socorro, business with the University there. Boy, is that area desolate and with nothing to do. But Albuquerque was a wonderful city, and I always wanted to sightsee Taos and Santa Fe. I haven't had the opportunity yet.

    Have a wonderful time. :)

  2. My impression of you is also of a very strong person. I've been reading a book and you remind me very much of the main character, not so much for the story, just the persona.

Have a great time and enjoy the wedding.

  3. I hope you manage to enjoy the excitement of the event and also to keep serene spaces available, just for you Mary C.
Post piccies of what you wore, especially the shoes, you're bound to have bought a new pair!!!

  4. I hope you have a restful and lovely time MC and a very Holy week.

  5. Safe travels and hoping you have a lovely time with your family, and fresh enjoyment of the place, with your renewed self!
Yes, I also was the mother with the passel of children trailing behind her. :)

  6. What an inspiring post! Well done on the sobriety!
Will set up a link to your blog..
